Album Review: Vee Tha Rula – Yet I Smile
The Alumni Artist released his project February 16th. ‘Yet I Smile.’ I left listening to Vee Tha Rula’s album with absolutely zero expectations, simply because I wanted to make sure I was entering this album completely open minded. As a avid Hip-Hop listener normally, I would judge a song by the beat it brings and so it was weird when listening to the album because mostly singles gave me the urge of wanting to skip at first, only because of the beat but then wanting to continue listening, regardless of the beat based on his delivery. I was real impressed when reviewing these 14 songs because it gave me an idea of what to expect from him moving further and the type of sound he produces for his listeners.

Halo – The beat sold me right away. It was the type of beat that fit perfectly well with the lyrics to the song. And the lyrics to the song basically insinuates his vision. How he knows he’s cold as hell in the game and he been knowing for a while, it just took people this long to realize how right he was.
I Need More – Right away, the beat had my head moving. This the type of song I would listen to on my way to a party and then will continue to listen to at said party. He makes a statement in the chorus about needing more time with family and that is the truest fact. As an artist, we sometimes lose sight on what’s most important so for him to mention that, just shows how true of an artist he his. We need more.
Blow – Anyone chasing their dream would feel this song on a personal level. The beat and chorus were definitely wholeheartedly made.
Fee Fi Fo – This is a genuinely sincere Vee that I wouldn’t mind having more of.
Heart For It – Definitely a song of encouragement. If you need the motivation, this song is it. It shows true dedication to his music and inspirationally gives out a vibe that allows you to feel that your dream is worth it so never stop pushing.
Murda Murda – This song basically explains the type of love he has for the music, his family and fans. With that being said, anyone trying to stop his growth or interfere with what he’s built, should understand that they can not be beat. Vee got this.
About Me – The beat is definitely exquisite, my favorite beat on the album thus far. But the song itself is really unique. Vee has built this huge foundation for him and he deserves to brag about it and make it all about him, which is exactly what he does on this song. He knows what he did and what he’s doing, any outside opinion is irrelevant.
On My Own – Another beat that has me wanting to sing from the heart. As an artist, there comes a time, or a few times, where you have to realize that if you want this, YOU have to do it on your own. Not everyone is going to be on the same mindset as you and this song is the perfect song for this situation. Vee knew the road he was taking and he took it. Even if it meant leaving others behind.
What We On – This song has the type of flow and beat that you would bump to in the studio or out with your boys. It talks about the importance of going with the flow and not getting to caught up in situations that could turn into distractions.
Slide On You – Brings a soft, smooth transition that is different from the other songs on this album. Definitely a song you can cruise to, alone or with another, but regardless, this is something I would not mind hearing from Vee in the future.
No Mercy – Specifically targeted for people who doubted the vision. No matter what city you come from, there are people who hate to see you out and if you never needed them to help you out, they become irrelevant when you actually do make it out. Vee made it clear that not everyone is going to root for you and that’s okay.
Nobody – It’s more of an old school vibe and flow. Not my favorite type but there is something about the song that keeps you listening, I believe it was the lyrics, and that’s a great aspect an artist can have.
All The Money – Another smooth transition on the album. This is a great beat for the album because it mixes his typical style with something unique but we still understand that it is a song about chasing what you want.
Rep For – Stay true to what made you who you are. This is a great song to end the album on because it talks about Vee’s humbleness. Throughout the album, you get a song about haters, about money, about shorty’s and still, you get to track 14 and you realize that Vee is another artist who had a dream and the support to make it real.
So with all that being said, I have to note that Vee Tha Rula was not an artist I kept up with but throughout this album , I was able to get a a better understanding of the type of artist he is and will definitely be on the look out for future work he releases. It was a great album overall, very true to the heart and that something you should be able to feel from every artist. If you want to see Vee Tha Rula live in concert check out his tour dates below. I guarantee he’ll be performing songs off “Yet I Smile”.
